Chrysoprase

Chrysoprase is a variety of Chalcedony that contains small amounts of nickel. As a cryptocrystalline gemstone, it is composed of tiny crystals you cannot see under magnification.

This stone is the second most valuable variety of Chalcedony. Ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Romans regarded this stone as highly valuable and forged jewels, seals, armor, and many objects from this stone. Many ancient jewelers would mistake this stone for an Emerald.

The meaning of Chrysoprase is "The Stone of Venus."

This crystal's name originates from the Greek word chrysos, which means "gold," and prasinon, which means "green." In the Middle Ages, people believed they would become invisible if they put a Chrysoprase stone in their mouth. 

Alexander III, the ancient Greek king from Macedonia, would wear a girdle in a battle that had this stone embedded. After a campaign in India, he laid his girdle in the Euphrates River, and a serpent came and bit off the stone, dropping it in the water. Alexander didn't win another campaign after losing this stone.

King Tutankhamun of Egypt's tomb contained many adornments that included Chrysoprase. This stone was also often used by Alexander the Great. Medieval Romans believed that this stone allowed you to understand the lizard language.

• Indian Chrysoprase: A deep green variety of Chrysoprase with blue and black shades, this stone is used in ornaments in India, where it is primarily mined.  
• Webbed Chrysoprase: A variety of Chrysoprases that consists of yellow, black, gray, and green webs, this stone clears out resentment and anger deeply embedded into the emotional space.
• Lemon Chrysoprase: This stone is also known as "Olivine." This variety of Chrysoprase is a combination of magnesium, nickel, and Chalcedony. It is used to uplift negative moods and put you in a positive mindset and vibration.
• Brazilian Chrysoprase: A lighter variety of Chrysoprase with black, white, and green spots, Brazilian Chrysoprase brings prosperity, success, and good fortune.
• African Chrysoprase, or Mtorolite: This variety occurs in shades of green with darker green inclusions and is often mistaken for Moss Agate. African Chrysoprase increases feelings of love and helps you become more forgiving. 
• Bolivian Chrysoprase or Chiquitanita: A dark green variety of Chalcedony colored by chromium, this stone occurs in a darker, grayish-green shade and is nearly opaque. This stone removes impure emotions from your heart. 

• Water - Hold Chrysoprase under a stream of running water for 30 minutes for a quick cleanse. You can also place it in a bowl of water for up to an hour.
• Singing Bowls - Place Chrysoprase next to your singing bowls then play the bowls for 5 minutes to cleanse this stone with sound. You can also cleanse this stone with tuning forks.
• Smoke Bathing/ Aromatherapy - Use sage, frankincense, myrrh, or palo santo incense or bundles. Light one end then fan the smoke over your crystal with your hand or feather. Always practice fire safety when using this method.
