Neptunite

Neptunite is a bold and mysterious crystal, known for its deep black to reddish-brown color. When light touches it just right, you might catch flashes of red or gold, almost like a hidden fire within. Its sharp edges and glassy surface give it a striking, polished look that stands out in any collection.

This crystal forms from a rare mix of sodium, potassium, iron, titanium, and silicate. It grows in volcanic rock and has a hardness of 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale. While it’s tough enough to admire, it still deserves gentle handling to keep its edges smooth and bright.

Neptunite is indeed very rare, but its bold presence is what most certainly gives value to the crystals. The most beautiful specimens have originated from California, where Neptunite is often found with Benitoite, the designated state gem. Discovered originally in 1905, this mineral was so named because it was named after Neptune, the Roman god of the sea.  Just like the ocean hides many secret things below its surface, so is said to hide the crystal’s power: the ability to guide you through whatever emotional depths you have invaded.
