Geodes are a beautiful, natural phenomenon. They are hollow rocks with a mass of crystals inside and are formed when a cavity is created in a rock. Then crystals form in the crevices from water flowing through.

Because of their intrigue and unique appearance, you may want to know how much geodes are worth and what the most expensive geode in the world is.

There are a range of factors that influence the worth of a geode, and they can be sold from as little as $5 to more than $1000. These factors are:

  • Crystal in geode
  • How the geode is cut
  • Weight and size
  • Symmetry

The crystals that are found in a rock influence how much geodes are worth. Many geodes contain Clear Quartz, making the rock common and worthless than others. Some geodes contain rarer stones, like Jasper and Agate. Many of the more expensive geodes are made from Amethyst crystals.

Another huge factor that determines the worth of the geode is how the rock is cut and opened. When cut open correctly, the geode will display the crystals and not have any other splits or cracks in the stone. The symmetry found in the geode affects the price. A more symmetrical geode will fetch a higher price.

The weight and size of the geode also affect how expensive they are. A larger geode is worth more than a smaller one.

As you can see, there is a large range in the price of geodes per pound, kilo, gram, and carat. When you want to sell a geode, make sure you are clued up on the different factors that affect the price of a geode.

Where can you sell geodes?

If you have a few geodes to sell, it may be worth setting up an eBay or Etsy account. These commerce websites allow you to advertise your geode and find a buyer. There are also a few websites that specialize in buying collections of crystals, including kristalle.com and crystalcircle.com

If you wish to sell your geode on a consumer-to-consumer website, such as eBay, it is important to be thorough and honest when placing your advertisement.

Here are our top tips for selling geodes:

  • Spend time taking pictures before putting your geode online. Find a neutral background for your photo to make sure there are no distractions from the geode. Don’t use flash and work with natural lighting. Sunlight can help the geode sparkle.
  • List all qualities of the geode in your description. Include where the geode came from, the crystals that are inside of it, its weight, and its size. Be completely honest when writing the description and describe any treatments the geode has had.
  • When it comes to price, have a look at what other similar geodes are going for. It is important to not undersell your stone! Place the price at what you think the geode is worth.
